Yard South Progress and Site History

Packard Family purchase the 30-acre former shipyard and begin land use analysis and community outreach.

One Planet Living is selected to provide the sustainability framework for Yard South. OPL is a vision of the world in which people enjoy happy, healthy lives within their fair share of the earth’s resources, leaving space for wildlife and wilderness.

Six outreach sessions were held with community members and local stakeholders to gain insight into the needs, wants, and challenges of South Portland residents.

City Council Workshop held in February to solicit City Council and community feedback.

Recognizing that traffic will be a development constraint, the Packard’s contribute funds toward the Cushing Point Transportation Study.

Community Site Walk to inform residents of site history and development intentions.

We reached back out to our abutting neighbors for their thoughts and feedback on our vision for this new neighborhood. An online meeting for Breakwater Condo and Townhouse residents was held for folks interested in learning more about Yard South.

We continued our outreach with neighbors and community members. We presented at the monthly Waterfront Alliance meeting, and held neighborhood events at the Spring Point Marina Boat House and the Knitting Nook.

We sponsored and had a booth at the Climatework Maine Summit, where we spoke and connected with many like-minded climate activists. We sponsored and had a table during both days of South Portland’s Spring Fest, where we spoke with and gathered feedback from many South Portland residents. We also held two more community outreach events at Spring Point Marina for neighbors and housing advocates.
